PERFORMANCE CAMS

     An easy and inexpensive way to pick up extra performance is by using a "hot" camshaft. We’ve used our 36 years of Corvair-only expertise to design these grinds. Simplistically, the hotter the grind, the poorer the low end and idle, and hotter grinds put out more horsepower at higher rpms. It’s a bit more complicated than that, so we are glad to discuss your particular needs and sell you the cam that work the best for you. Generally, the GoVair P-100 cams and Isky 260 work well in all motors, but only give a slight improvement in hp. The GoVair P-200 cams and Isky 270 are a good compromise between drivability and hp, but are the maximum recommended cams for auto trans vehicles, and generally turbos. (The auto-turbo issue primarily centers around the loss of low end horsepower and torque. You can use a hotter cam in these applications but may not like the total streetable results.) The Govair P-300 and Isky 280 cams are the best hp cams for manual trans cars yet they still maintain reasonable "drivability".
