Shown above - 90 durometer urethane Performance arms (top two) and 75 durometer Improved Street arms (lower two)
The original 1965-69 Corvair rear lower control arms came from the factory with vulcanized rubber (probably neoprene) bushings. If you needed to replace them you bought the whole arm with new vulcanized bushings.
In the late 70's Corvair vendors started offering press-in steel shell bushings (we've sold a lot of them). They work ok but are not the ideal solution. At the same time performance minded individuals started using press-in nylon inserts (we've sold those too). They work ok but shouldn't be used in street cars because they're too rigid. Furthermore it was impossible to "fine tune" the durometer (hardness/softness) with either type.
Enter then a raft of "home-cast" urethane arm assemblies. They had the right idea but quality control was generally poor and the arms got a bad reputation.
* Our urethane process is done by a professional company that has perfected this process - No more "bathtub" urethane!
